Preventing the use of personal data

Every citizen has the right to require the controller to stop the processing of personal data related to him. There is no strict form as to what should be included and what should the request look like, but it is advised to include the following data:

  • Your identity and personal data that you call on;
  • When you think that the processing of personal data is illegal;
  • When the personal data is used for other purposes, not the purpose that you have given consent for;
  • Possible harmful effects of such processing;
  • A deadline in which you want the processing of your personal data to stop (it should be a reasonable one).

You should always keep a copy of the requests that you submit to the controllers as well as all correspondence except the responses you have received. Those can be used as evidence in case of a dispute or if you submit a request to the Directorate for Personal Data Protection.
